Subscription & Billing Management Application Development for Storage Solutions

About the Client

Founded in 1998, the Client offers a wide array of technology, marketing and performance solutions to credit unions. Their technology solutions include disaster recovery, private cloud backup and hosting, custom programming and integration, e-statements, e-notices and more.

Business Challenge

One of the client’s technology solutions was E-Storage for storing customer data. The client used a basic Microsoft Excel based approach to calculate storage usage calculations and maintaining client details. This approach was time consuming and was prone to errors.

The client wanted to develop a web based customer management portal, for calculating billing details based on data usage,

Silicus Solution

Silicus developed a Web-Based solution named as an “Information Management System” that served as an end to end portal to manage customer information related to the storage data usage, serving as the basis for billing.

The web application had the following modules :

  • Admin
  • Tariff
  • Reports
  • Batch Processes
  • Configuration

The web application would have the following features:

  • User Authentication
  • Predefine authorized roles & user role assignment
  • Trigger Jobs/background tasks to import customers’ replication/backup data
  • Define pricing plans (e.g., Fixed slabs, rate per usage)
  • Trigger jobs to aggregate customers’ backup/replication usage and calculate costs

Client Benefits

Secured Data

In complex systems, data is stored and moved around separate systems and data sources. In web-based systems processes can often be consolidated reducing the need to move data around. Web-based applications like the Information Management System also provide an added layer of security by removing the need for the user to have access to the data and back-end servers.

Improved interoperability

Using the web-based intranet portal made it possible to achieve a far greater level of interoperability between applications. For example, it is now easier to generate bulk invoices and then import them into a web-based accounting software such as QuickBooks.

Automated Usage Calculation & Billing Process

The portal significantly automated the billing process, minimising errors and saving time.
