The client specializes in the design, structural analysis and integrity management of riser and conductor systems used in the drilling and production of offshore oil and gas reserves. Services offered are:

Business Challenge

The client used a SharePoint 2010 implementation for managing business projects for serving their end customers.

The client wanted enhancements to the portal, such as improving usability of the portal and incorporating additional features for users (employees). Some of the enhancements needed were:

  • Improvements to Picture Gallery
  • Ability for users to Bookmark relevant pages
  • Self-configure alerts
  • Configure Problem Reporting Database
  • Color coding for Problem Database items

The clients engaged Silicus for their intranet portal enhancement, which was carried out in a two-stage process i.e. Assessment and Execution Phase.

In the Assessment Phase, Silicus completed a detailed analysis of the requirements and documented them as a part of the deliverables.

Silicus used custom components in Visual Studio to develop the bookmarking functionality. Visual Studio workflows were leveraged to develop self-configured alerts to view libraries and lists available on the portal. The user can also assign read-only permissions to any document.

Silicus created different permission levels for different roles such as for:
  • Admin – All rights (Read, Write, Delete)
  • General Users- (Read & Write)
  • Others-(Read Only)
Silicus enhanced the existing Picture Gallery portal, allowing users to create collages of the different events of the client. Portal usability was improved using SharePoint Designer, with modified layouts imparting a new look and feel to the portal. Knowledge Management Repository: Silicus developed a Knowledge Management Repository where the problems faced during the project and also the Lessons Learned post project were documented for future reference. This was implemented using SharePoint List & C# Language. Problem items or issues in projects were tagged with Red/Blue/Green color coding based on the planned completion dates & statuses using C#.
