The client is a leading reverse mortgage company, providing professional services to senior homeowners for a better financial future. A variety of mortgage products are available that leverage the equity senior homeowners have acquired in their homes.

Business Challenge

The client sells the majority of its mortgage products through retail and wholesale partners. The partners need to have quick access to current information to help them sell more efficiently and keep loan applicants properly updated. Such data includes the status of loan applications, marketing and training materials, and critical announcements.

An existing partner portal had been built using open-source technologies. However, the client’s content authors found it difficult to edit and maintain. It also lacked robust security features; hence, the client could not share sensitive data through the portal.

The client chose Silicus for their expertise in implementing Microsoft SharePoint portals. Silicus worked with the client to design and implement a secure topology for the SharePoint extranet. The topology consisted of a web application firewall, a SharePoint web front-end server in DMZ, an app server and database, and an external AD server in extranet zone separated from client’s internal network.

The portal was designed to use form-based authentication and took credentials shared with the client’s loan origination system. A visually compelling and functional user experience was created that took advantage of SharePoint’s user and branding features – custom master pages, CSS and page layouts for different content types. Existing data was migrated from the old portal to the new SharePoint extranet using customized scripts for faster and cost-effective content migration. Custom web parts, that provide a role-based dashboard of loan statuses, were written using third-party solutions to surface loan data from internal line of business (LOB) applications.

The newly developed SharePoint portal has provided the client’s partners with both intuitive and highly secure access to loan information and other relevant content. Content authors find the system easy to use and sensitive data can now safely be delivered through the portal for sharing with partners.
