Business Continuity

Silicus understands the uncertainty our customers may face working with a vendor in a distant geography and culture which they are unfamiliar with. A remote geography may have its own set of risks including political conditions, nature climatic events and potential for naturally occurring disasters. Silicus’ business continuity and disaster recovery plan addresses this uncertainty and encompasses the following areas:

  • Data
  • Development Center Infrastructure
  • Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Preparedness
  • Key People

Data Backup

  • Ghost Images of Servers maintained Offsite
  • Daily onsite backup (incremental) on disk
  • Daily offshore backup (incremental) on disk
  • Daily offsite backup (incremental) on tape
  • Weekly offsite full backup maintained in 2 different locations with a 4-week period of refresh (before recycling backup media)

Development Center Infrastructure

Power: Power backup is provided by a 250KVA Backup generator + an 80 KVA UPS. The backup generator can run 24 hours on a full tank, and 1200 gallons of fuel are always maintained on premises to keep backup power flowing during extended power outages.

Automated Data Backup

At Silicus we ensure data is backed up in accordance with best practices. The frequency of backups as well as maintenance of backups ensures efficient recovery in the event of a disaster.

Data is backed up using:

  • Automated Backup Procedures to backup Server Configurations and Data
  • Daily Incremental Backups maintained locally, offsite and at our Houston Office
  • Weekly Full Backups maintained locally, offsite and at our Houston Office

Communication & Connectivity

Silicus employees and clients at customer locations connect to the core infrastructure using a secure SSL VPN solution over broadband connections. Additionally all Silicus offices globally are connected to our development center over a fully meshed IPSec VPN.

Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Preparedness:

Office Space: The Houston office serves as a first backup for catastrophic events. Alternate office space is available in NOIDA (near Delhi) in India in the event the Development Center has to be replicated at a geographically diverse location.

Hardware: Existing relationships with vendors provide the ability to replicate the complete office hardware in 48-72 hours in the event of a catastrophic failure.

Future Plans: Silicus as it grows beyond 250 people will be establishing another development center in India. As part of its expansion plans, and prudent business continuity planning, Silicus will open a development center in a city other than Pune.

Key People:

As a strategy to mitigate the loss/unavailability of key resources, Silicus has institutionalized a policy of resource shadowing. At a team level, this consists of a team member shadowing the Product Development Manager, and other team members being closely familiar with the work being done/already done in the project. Further, the ability to travel internationally is maintained by requiring possession of a valid passport and visas for travel.
